Not covering as many subjects and not as comprehensive and detailed as Yale-G First Aid: Helps to compartmentalize info. I've spent over a week with this book, and so far I like it. It's well organized and goes into a good amount of detail for most of the high yield topics that will be tested on Step CK.
Ya it may not be as perfect as First Aid for Step 1, but as far as the resources out there go, this one is pretty easy to get used to. The book also contains some mnemonics, key facts, and even short questions in the side columns where you can also write notes. The book also has a lot of tables that compare and contrast similar disease processes. Overall, I think it is a solid resource to use throughout 3rd year.
Like UWQB. I think FA for CK really stepped it up a notch for this version. Let me be very specific. They give first best workup, most accurate workup. Has few of the multitude of errors found in MTB2.
Many of the topics in UWQbank were actually nicely reviewed in this book, I was shocked! Impressed to see the first aid ck take a huge step forward.
This book has the equivalent of both. One person found this helpful.
I'm lowering my rating to 2 stars. This book is often blatantly incorrect and even more frequently missing key information. A substantial proportion of UWorld and NBME questions simply cannot be answered using information from this book alone. The writing and editing is so sloppy that it seems like it was done the night before the publisher's deadline.
Diagrams, tables, etc. These problems are not limited to low yield topics. Even extremely high yield topics like MI and PE contain inaccuracies that even the worst medical student can easily point out and are written so poorly that even simple concepts are difficult to comprehend. Le and Bhushan should have thought twice before putting their names on yet another lousy edition of First Aid for CK. I hold this book to a high standard because FA for Step 1 has such remarkably high quality of content, editing, and most importantly accuracy.
It looks like different people wrote and edited different chapters of the book and the book's general editor did a poor job making each chapter follow a standard set of guidelines for organization. Concepts are often described in different parts of the book in the same way e.
I obviously haven't read the entire thing it was released just a week ago but I'm already noticing some blatant mistakes.
This is ironic because First Aid for the Psychiatric Clerkship has a very good description. Even WebMD is more accurate in this regard. To the Fisch' and the rest of the folks over at Master the Boards: I'm the first person on site to review this very mediocre book so I know you're reading this.
The First Aid people are obviously not interested in making their book the undisputed STEP 2 bible and you've got a few months until your new edition comes out. You may message me here if you'd like to send me a free copy as a thank you for the plug or to hire me to help with editing.
No errata I can find. I never write reviews. This is probably my first ever, but as a medical student I felt compelled.
